Disability Benefits for Children

Along with the yearly amount allocated for adults,there is an additional supplement that is included in theDisability Tax Credit specifically for children under the age of 18.This supplement is separate from the Child Disability Benefit.

What is the Child Disability Benefit?

The Child Disability Benefit (CDB) is a monthly amount that will be added to the Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB) paid out to mothers (or other caregivers in certain situations). You will receive a lump sum retroactive payment of all CDB payments you were entitled to receive up to a maximum of ten previous years. In addition to the retroactive payments you will also receive an increase on your monthly CCTB payment going forward for as long as your child is approved for the Disability Tax Credit or until they turn 18 years old.
